Scott Weiland’s Chart History, From Stone Temple Pilots to Velvet Revolver to the Wildabouts
Billboard has compiled a comprehensive list of the late rockers' hit recordings.
Scott Weiland’s Stone Temple Pilots marked the template of what a ‘90s post-grunge rock band could be. His Velvet Revolver project was the archetype of what a “supergroup” might look like.
With both acts, Weiland enjoyed airplay and hits and, with STP in particular, a network of fans which stretched across the globe. The singer died Thursday (Dec. 3) at the age of 48.

With Weiland at the mic, STP scored six top 10s on the Billboard 200, including the three-week No. 1 Purple in 1994, following a No. 3 peak for its predecessor, Core, in 1993.
Weiland’s STP also landed 16 top 10s on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, including six No. 1s, led by 1994’s “Interstate Love Song,” which ruled for 15 weeks.
STP managed 11 top 10s on the Alternative Songs airplay chart, including a three-week stint at No. 1 for “Between the Lines” in 2010.
Excluding its output with Chester Bennington, who took vocal duties in 2013 and recently announced his own departure to focus on his other band, Linkin Park, STP has sold 13.5 million albums in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music.
Weiland’s stint with Velvet Revolver was brief but its chart performance was impressive. The group logged two top 10 entries on the Billboard 200: the No. 1 Contraband in 2004 and the No. 5 Libertad in 2007.

Velvet Revolver notched four top 10s on the Mainstream Rock Songs tally, including two No. 1s, and two top 10s on Alternative Songs, including the four-week No. 1 “Slither” in 2004. The band has sold 2.4 million albums in the U.S., according to Nielsen Music.
Weiland enjoye some successes as a solo artist, as well, with three albums cracking the Billboard 200 and three tracks earning top 40 status on Alternative Songs. His 1998 album 12 Bar Blues managed a No. 42 Billboard 200 peak, his 2008 set Happy In Galoshes hit No. 97 and Blaster, by his latest outfit, Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, reached No. 133.
