Music-instruction franchise School of Rock is launching a new international talent search in partnership with Atlantic Records its Artist Partner Group (APG) imprint, the companies announced on Wednesday (April 3).
Named Center Stage, the talent search is now soliciting audition videos from singers across the globe. Twenty five of the most promising musicians will be flown out to Los Angeles to perform in a private artist showcase for Atlantic and APG executives and record songs at APG’s studio with professional engineers.
“School of Rock is one of the largest communities of creators in the world,” said School of Rock CEO Rob Price in a statement. “We pride ourselves on taking students out of a practice room and putting them on to the stage. With Center Stage, we’re giving these talented artists the potential to reach their biggest audience yet. It’s an honor to be a central part of that journey.”
One hundred additional applicants who don’t make the cut but show promise will receive scholarships to a School of Rock camp in their area. All singers aged 13-19 are eligible as long as they live in a country where School or Rock operates, including the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Peru, South Africa, Australia and the Philippines. Applicants do not have to be enrolled at a School of Rock camp to enter.
“One of my top priorities is to break down the barriers of entry in the industry,” added APG CEO Mike Caren. “School of Rock has valuable resources to develop one’s artistry, and Center Stage is a unique platform for the discovery of talent.”
Notable former School of Rock students include Dr. Dog drummer Eric Slick, Justin Bieber and Scooter Braun protégé Madison Beer and third-place American Idol contestant Dalton Rapattoni.
School of Rock was launched in 1998 in Philadelphia as the Paul Green School of Rock Music (named after its founder). It now boasts more than 33,000 students in over 230 locations worldwide.
