Alejandro Aranda, runner up on last season’s American Idol, has been added to Lollapalooza, marking the first time a contestant on the show had played the Chicago festival, which takes place Aug. 1-4 in Grant Park.
Performing as Scarypoolparty, Aranda was added months after the lineup was announced and is currently playing several dates in California before launching his fall theater tour. The tour will feature a full band and kick off Oct. 10 at The UC Theatre in Berkeley, California, with stops at Playstation Theatre in New York, the Majestic Theater in Detroit and White Oak Music Hall in Houston, before closing out on Nov. 21 at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles.
Manager Jonathan Shank with Red Light tells Billboard that Aranda sold 30,000 tickets the first day they went on sale with no advertising, announcing the fall run on Instagram with dates in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Dallas quickly selling out.
“There’s demand for added shows and bigger venues in every market,” Shank tells Billboard, adding that Aranda’s previous club tour sold out in 15 minutes.
“This tour will be my first ever tour as an artist which leaves me terrified and excited at the same time,” Aranda told Billboard in June. “I’m looking forward to putting out new music and seeing how the songs do out on the road.”
Prior to auditioning for American Idol, Aranda was busking on the streets of Los Angeles and performing at backyard parties. His first single “Tonight” was produced by Twin Shadow on June 28 via Hollywood Recordings. Aranda is repped by UTA.
