Sam Smith sells 97,000 combined units to debut at the top of the U.K. album chart with his sophomore release The Thrill Of It All (Capitol/Universal). Camila Cabello’s “Havana” (Epic/Syco/Sony), featuring Young Thug, starts a second week at No. 1 on the singles chart.
The Official Charts Company reports that 64% of Smith’s first-week sales were physical, with 21% comprised of downloads and 14% equivalent streaming sales. His 2014 debut In The Lonely Hour, which had opening sales of 101,000, this week climbs 21-15 in its 114th week in the top 40.
Roy Orbison has a new entry at No. 2 on the album chart with A Love So Beautiful (Sony Music CG), which features his best-loved songs with new accompaniment by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. That matches his best-ever U.K. ranking with a studio release, for 1989’s Mystery Girl; 1975’s The Best of Roy Orbison and 1988’s The Legendary Roy Orbison both topped the bestsellers.
After arriving last week at No. 1, Michael Ball and Alfie Boe’s Together Again (Decca/Universal) dips to No. 3. Ed Sheeran bounces 6-4 with ÷ (Asylum/Warner) and Pink has a non-mover at No. 5 with Beautiful Trauma (RCA/Sony).
There’s also a No. 9 start for actress-singer Sheridan Smith’s Sheridan debut (East West/Warner Music), while the compilation chart has a No. 1 debut in the shape of Dreamboats & Petticoats — The Diamond Edition (UMOD/Universal).
“Havana” has its best sales week to date, finishing 10,000 combined units ahead of its predecessor at No. 1, “Rockstar” (Republic/Universal) by Post Malone featuring 21 Savage. That stays at No. 2 as another former chart-topper, Sam Smith’s “Too Good At Goodbyes,” rebounds 7-3, boosted by his album sales.
Marshmello’s “Silence” (Ministry of Sound), featuring Khalid, dips 3-4 as Rita Ora’s “Anywhere” (Atlantic/Warner Music) becomes her 11th top ten U.K. hit with an 11-5 climb.
