“It was such an honor to be asked to write and record ‘Writing’s on the Wall,’ and it’s incredible that it’s become the first Number 1 Bond theme song,” Smith told Official Charts. “It’s been an unforgettable experience working with Barbara [Broccoli] and Sam [Mendes] to become part of this British legacy. I couldn’t have done this without my fans — this is a special moment I’ll never forget.”
Broccoli is co-producing and Mendes is directing the upcoming Bond film Spectre, which drops Nov. 6 in the U.S.
Smith also makes an appearance on top of the U.K. albums chart, as Disclosure‘s cameo-heavy Caracal — featuring Smith, Lorde, The Weeknd and more — debuts at No. 1. Meanwhile, New Order makes its highest chart appearance in 22 years, debuting at No. 2 with Music Complete.
