Romeo Santos’ ‘Imitadora’ Dethrones ‘Despacito’ Atop Latin Airplay Chart

Romeo Santos‘ “Imitadora” hits No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart (dated July 29) in its fourth week on the chart, bounding from No. 4 to No. 1 and jumping by 19 percent to 18 million audience impressions in the week ending July 13, according to Nielsen Music.

The move halts the reign of Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee‘s “Despacito,” featuring Justin Bieber; the song drops from No. 1 to No. 4. With the exception of the April 15-dated chart, when Enrique Iglesias’ “Subeme La Radio,” featuring Descemer Bueno, Zion & Lennox, topped the list, “Despacito” led Latin Airplay for 19 total weeks, beginning on the chart dated March 11.

Shakira’s “La Tortura,” featuring Alejandro Sanz, holds the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on Latin Airplay: 25 weeks, in 2005.

“Imidatora” is Santos’ 12th No. 1 on Latin Airplay, tying him with Shakira and Carlos Vives for the third-most No. 1s in the chart’s history. Enrique Iglesias leads with 29, followed by Ricky Martin (16).
