Red Sox slugger Yoenis Cespedes has joined Jay Z‘s burgeoning sports agency Roc Nation Sports, the company announced this week.
Roc Nation Sports’ roster also includes fellow MLB stars C.C. Sabathia, Robinson Cano and Rusney Castillo, as well as NFL players Victor Cruz and Geno Smith. NBA superstar Kevin Durant, also a client, recently re-upped his endorsement deal with Nike with Roc Nation’s help.
Cespedes is leaving the Wasserman Media Group’s Adam Katz, who has rep’d the 29-year-old outfielder since his defection from Cuba in 2012. Despite reports that most of Cespedes’ baseball affairs will be handled by CAA, a Roc Nation spokesperson tells Billboard that those matters will actually be handled by Roc Nation Sports president Juan Perez.
Cespedes will be a free agent following the 2015 season, capping a four-year, $36 million deal. He batted .260 and hit 22 home runs with 100 RBIs this season, which he began with the Oakland A’s before being traded to Boston.
Rumors have swirled in recent days that Cespedes is angling for a trade during this offseason, though he was all smiles about Red Sox Nation on his birthday over the weekend.
Thank you for all of your birthday wishes. Im blessed for being part of #RedSoxNation pic.twitter.com/BPYcyCH02U
