Robin Schulz’s ‘Prayer’ Progresses, Madonna Debuts on Dance/Electronic Charts
Robin Schulz shoots into the top five on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs & Madonna begins a march toward history on Dance Club Songs.
Robin Schulz scores his first top five hit on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, as “Prayer in C,” with Lillywood, rises 6-5. The song posts strong downloads (24,000 sold, up 6 percent, according to Nielsen Music) in a weak post-holiday sales frame, good for a six-spot gain on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs (10-4).

Additionally, Schulz’s Prayer powers to a new peak on Dance/Electronic Albums (11-7; 1,000 units, up 5 percent). The DJ, who played to a packed Webster Hall in New York on Jan. 10, gained exposure following his remix of Mr. Probz‘s “Waves,” which holds at No. 1 for a ninth week on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. Schulz’s soft style was also recently applied to radio-friendly remixes of David Guetta‘s “Dangerous” and Axwell ^ Ingrosso‘s “Something New.”
MOVING ‘UP’: Mark Ronson‘s “Uptown Funk!” flies 13-3 on Dance/Mix Show Airplay. The No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 smash becomes featured vocalist’s Bruno Mars‘ first top five (and third top 10) on the radio-based chart. It’s Ronson’s second, after “Stop Me” (featuring Daniel Merriweather), which reached No. 4 in 2007. Ronson, thus, rewrites his best rank this week.
“Uptown” is also up 7-3 on Dance Club Songs, marking the first top 10 for each artist. On the Billboard Artist 100, Ronson rolls into the top 10 (13-8) for the first time.
Trance duo Tritonal also traipses into the Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10, with “Anchor” (12-10). The track (sung by an unnamed female vocalist) is the pair’s second top 10. “Now Or Never,” featuring Phoebe Ryan, reached No. 5 in December 2013.
‘ALL’ THE WAY TO No. 1: Gorgon City grabs its first No. 1 on Dance Club Songs with “Go All Night,” featuring Jennifer Hudson (2-1). It’s the second No. 1 for vocalist Hudson, who previously ruled with her breakout remake of “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” nearly eight years ago.
The Gorgon City production duo previously scored two No. 1s on the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists tally: “Here for You,” featuring Laura Welsh, and “Ready for Your Love,” featuring Mnek. Its album Sirens spent a week on Top Dance/Electronic Albums at No. 8 (Oct. 25). Remixes from Erick Morillo, Freemasons and Booka Shade, among others, helped Gorgon “go” all the way on Dance Club Songs.
COUNTDOWN TO HISTORY?: Speaking of Dance Club Songs, Madonna explodes onto the chart at No. 32 with “Living for Love.” The lead single from her forthcoming album Rebel Heart (due March 10) marks her first chart appearance since “Turn Up the Radio” became her record-extending 43rd No. 1 in September 2012. If “Living” eventually latches onto No. 1, Madonna will equal one of the most vaunted milestones in Billboard chart history: the Queen of Pop will tie the King of Country, George Strait, for the most No. 1s by any act on a single Billboard chart. Strait boasts 44 No. 1s on Hot Country Songs.
Remixes of “Living” from Djemba Djemba, Offer Nissim, Dirty Pop, Thrill and Mike Rizzo have been sent out to club DJs.
