Rich The Kid Makes Billboard Hot 100 Debut With Kendrick Lamar Collaboration ‘New Freezer’

Queens, New York-based rapper Rich The Kid, 25, earns his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Feb. 10), as “New Freezer,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, debuts at No. 75.
“That’s a blessing!!,” he tweeted upon finding out about the debut. “Coming for #1!”
“New Freezer,” which also reaches a new No. 36 peak on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (after debuting on Dec. 2), drew 9.1 million U.S. streams (up 43 percent) and sold 4,000 downloads (up 120 percent) in the week ending Feb. 1, according to Nielsen Music.
The song’s sudden spike in popularity is due, in part, to a new internet dance craze called the “New Freezer Challenge,” with fans of the song uploading short videos swaying to the song’s beat.
Rich The Kid (born Dimitri Roger) concurrently jumps 41-22 for a new high on the Emerging Artists chart.
The official video for “New Freezer” was released Oct. 30 and has logged 24 million global views on YouTube.
Rich The Kid broke through on Billboard‘s charts in July 2016, when “How Else,” with Steve Aoki and ILoveMakonnen, hit No. 47 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. A year later, his collaborative mixtape with Famous Dex and Jay Critch, Rich Forever 3, reached No. 42 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and No. 93 on the Billboard 200.
“New Freezer” was released on Interscope Records. The MC launched his own label, Rich Forever Music, which is now owned by Universal.
