The Recording Industry Association of America announced on Wednesday a trio of C-level promotions/hires within the organization. Mitch Glazier, the RIAA’s chief executive, said Morna Willens has been elevated to chief policy officer and Karen Silhol to chief financial officer, while Ken Doroshow was hired as the industry lobby group’s chief legal officer. Each position is effective immediately and reports to Glazier.
“I am thrilled to have Morna, Ken and Karen as key members of the RIAA leadership team,” said Glazier. “As true experts in their fields, each has a unique skill set that will help drive our industry forward and continue RIAA’s track record of advocating for creators as a leading trade organization in Washington.”
Willens previously served as svp of federal public policy at the RIAA, a role that put her at the fore of industry advocacy efforts during the passage of the Music Modernization Act. Prior to joining the RIAA, Willens was a vp at PR firm The Glover Park Group and before that, worked as a legislative assistant for Rep. John Shimkus in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Silhol was previously evp of finance and administration for RIAA, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the org’s financial management, information technology and administration. Before joining the RIAA in 2001, Silhol spent three years as an auditor with the accounting firm Calibre CPA Group.
Doroshow returns to the RIAA after 11 years away — he was head of litigation from 2005-2008 — working as a partner at law firm Jenner & Block. Before his initial stint at the RIAA, Doroshow served as general counsel to the Entertainment Software Association and as a prosecutor for the U.S. Dept. of Justice.
“What an incredible team to be leading this organization into our next phase,” said RIAA COO Michele Ballantyne. “I could not be happier to be working alongside such talented people who think outside the box and whose experience in their respective fields will prove invaluable as our industry continues to transform itself.”
