Bandsintown + Billboard Touring Indexes: Rex Orange County Surges & Sturgill Simpson Debuts
On the second edition of the Bandsintown + Billboard Indexes, Rex Orange County surges to the top, while Sturgill Simpson debuts.

Following Billie Eilish’s inaugural reign over the Bandsintown + Billboard Touring Indexes, Rex Orange County surpasses her, topping both the Global and U.S. Top Artists Indexes, while Letterkenny maintains the top spot on both Rising Artists Indexes.
The Bandsintown + Billboard Index includes four new weekly charts: Global Top Artists, U.S. Top Artists, Global Rising Artists, and U.S. Rising Artists. The Top Artists rankings include all acts with 250,000 or more Bandsintown trackers, while the Rising Artists lists feature acts with 10,000-249,999 trackers.
These weekly rankings are based on percentage growth in overall engagement during a rolling month, including new trackers, ticket clicks, and event RSVPs (all four indexes will update weekly, using data from the previous 30 days). Fans can become a “tracker” of their favorite artists on bandsintown.com by searching for any given act. All artist pages host a complete touring schedule, links to music and merchandise, and allows fans to post show reviews. Each individual show listing has options to click through to purchase a ticket link (ticket clicks) in addition to links to rsvp within Bandsintown, by selecting “interested” or “going.”
Rex Orange County surges to the No. 1 position with sustained momentum following the late-October release of his third LP, Pony. Rex’s upcoming touring schedule plays out with eleven remaining 2019 shows in Europe, followed by a 50-plus-date run in 2020, mixing shows on both sides of the pond.
Because these charts are based on trending momentum, rather than total activity, artists are likely to spike upon a tour announcement or dates going on sale. Rex’s sustained engagement on Bandsintown is impressive, more than a month after the initial announce of his 2020 tour.
Debuting on the back of the announcement of the 2020 A Good Look’n Tour, Sturgill Simpson enters the U.S. Top Artists ranking at No. 5 and the Global Top Artists at No. 7. The trek, featuring special guest Tyler Childers, will be Simpson’s first full foray into arenas, including Denver’s Pepsi Center, the American Airlines Center in Dallas, and New York’s famed Madison Square Garden.
With tickets still on sale for the Letterkenny Live! Tour, Letterkenny retains the pole position on both Rising Artists Indexes.
