Republic Records Ups Wendy Goldstein to President, West Coast Creative: Exclusive

The leading A&R exec steered Jonas Brothers and Ariana Grande to the top of the Billboard 200 this year.

Republic Records chiefs Monte and Avery Lipman have elevated Wendy Goldstein to president, West Coast Creative, Billboard can exclusively announce.

Since 2017, Goldstein has overseen the label’s Santa Monica outpost as executive vp, Republic Records. A leading A&R executive, she has in the past year guided Ariana Grande to back-to-back No. 1 debuts on the Billboard 200 albums chart (with Sweetener in August 2018 and thank u, next just six months later), and played an instrumental role in the Jonas Brothers‘ comeback, overseeing their new album Happiness Begins, which also debuted at No. 1 earlier this month.

“Wendy’s reputation as one of the industry’s best A&R executives is accurate and well deserved,” shared Monte. “Her instincts, focus and respect within the creative community remains unparalleled. Leading by example, this new position will recognize her proven track record as an exceptional executive, role model, and gives her the opportunity to guide the company into uncharted waters.”

Echoes Avery: “Wendy is truly an A&R visionary. Her keen intuition, perspective, and passion for music have galvanized the careers of countless superstars. Not to mention, she’s family to Republic Records having signed our very first project to a major label deal. We can’t wait for the next chapter with her.”

This year also marks Goldstein’s tenth anniversary at Republic, where she came on board as an A&R consultant in 2009. As she rose from senior vp of A&R in 2011 to executive vp and head of urban in 2014, she steered the careers of The Weeknd, Julia Michaels, Hailee Steinfeld, Enrique Iglesias and more, earning a slot on Billboard‘s Women in Music list every year since 2015 (and delivering the keynote in 2017). Prior to Republic, she held A&R roles at Geffen Records, East West, MCA and Capitol/Priority.

In her new role, Goldstein will continue to be based in Santa Monica.

“It’s been a privilege to work with Monte, Avery, and Republic Records since 1996 when I signed their first act to Geffen Records,” Goldstein says. “In the twenty years since, we’ve been a part of some of music’s most important artists together. Truly, they’ve empowered and inspired me every step of the way. It’s an honor to be a part of what they’ve built, and I’m looking forward to many more milestones together.”
