Republic Records has promoted Julian Swirsky to senior vp of A&R, the label’s executive vp, Rob Stevenson, announced today (Jan. 5).

As an A&R manager at Republic since 2018, Swirsky is known for signing breakthrough “Ransom” rap star Lil Tecca and co-signing alt-pop phenom Conan Gray alongside executive vp, A&R Ben Adelson. In his new post, based at the label’s New York City headquarters, Swirsky will identify, sign and cultivate the careers of developing talent while also working on 2020 albums from Gray and Tecca.

“Julian’s knowledge of the evolving landscape, his drive to define what’s ‘next,’ and refusal to take no for an answer provided the engine for signing two of popular culture’s most exciting new talents,” Stevenson commented. “Relying on these instincts and an endless passion for the artists who he supports, he is fast becoming one of the industry’s most forward-thinking A&R executives.”

Swirsky has had a speedy rise at Republic: He joined as an A&R consultant during his junior year at New York University, and accepted the A&R manager role upon graduating.

“I have tremendous respect for Monte and Avery Lipman, Rob, Ben, and the entire team,” Swirsky adds. “They have consistently encouraged me to take risks, be creative, and break the mold in any way possible. Republic is the archetype of what a modern record label should be. There’s no better place to work at. I’m thrilled for what the future holds.”

Republic recently closed out 2019 as the top label on Billboard‘s year-end charts — for the fourth time in the last five years. Led by the Lipman brothers (Monte as founder/CEO and Avery as founder/president), the Universal Music Group label is home to Ariana Grande, Post Malone, Jonas Brothers, Drake and Taylor Swift
