Radiohead’s ninth studio set A Moon Shaped Pool (XL) was released physically last Friday (June 17) and has shifted 34,000 combined sales (including 32,000 hard copies) at the midweek stage of the chart cycle. It’s currently No. 1 on the Official Chart Update, just 4,000 ahead of RHCP’s 11th album The Getaway (Warner Bros), according to the OCC.
A Moon Shaped Pool has already climbed the summit of the Official U.K. Albums Chart, doing so on digital sales and streams alone in May to become the alternative rock veterans’ sixth chart-topper in the market. If The Getaway gets to the top, it’ll be the Chili Peppers’ fifth No. 1 LP.
Meanwhile, Jake Bugg opens at No. 3 on the midweek chart with On My One (EMI); last week’s No. 1, Rick Astley’s 50 (BMG), dips to No. 4; while Mumford & Sons’ collaborative, South Africa-recorded mini-album Johannesburg (Gentlemen of the Road/Island) is new at No. 5.
The French producer’s remix of the Australian trio’s 2009 track (featuring Kylie Auldist) is just 1,800 combined chart sales ahead of the Canadian rapper’s global hit to lead the Official Chart Update.
The top 5 is completed by Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling” (RCA) at No. 3; “Give Me Your Love” (Ministry of Sound) by Sigala Ft Newman/Rodgers at No. 4; and “This is What You Came For” (Columbia) by Calvin Harris Ft Rihanna at No. 5.
In other chart news, Adele’s “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” (XL) is on track for its first stint inside the top 20. The single climbs 26-18 on the midweek chart.
This new U.K. singles and albums charts will be published late Friday local time.
