Rachel Platten Gets New No. 1 With ‘Fight Song’ & More Taylor Swift Support

Platten's breakthrough hit "Fight Song" tops Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart, while her new single receives an endorsement from friend, and occasional duet partner, Swift.

Rachel Platten‘s breakthrough hit still has a lot of fight left at radio.

“Fight Song” crowns Billboard‘s Adult Contemporary chart (dated Sept. 26), marking the latest milestone in the empowerment anthem’s arc. It previously topped Adult Pop Songs for four weeks, beginning Aug. 15, and debuted atop the Official UK Singles chart dated Sept. 12.

The singer/songwriter’s smash reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 (Aug. 29) and has sold nearly 2 million downloads to-date, according to Nielsen Music. (It could pass the 2 million mark when next week’s charts are tabulated.)

Meanwhile, Platten released follow-up single “Stand by You” Friday (Sept. 11). Columbia Records began promoting it to radio Monday (14) and, while it wasn’t from a programmer, the label had to settle for support from at least one key influencer. “I’ve got ‘Stand By You’ by @RachelPlatten on repeat today. I highly recommend it,” Taylor Swift wrote on Twitter to her more than 63 million followers.

“You are the sweetest ever, Taylor. I’m gonna stand by YOU (oh no…had to!),” Platten responded. “@taylorswift13 love youuuu!!!!”

During Swift’s 1989 World Tour, she’s brought Platten up on-stage to perform “Fight Song,” with the pair also recording a snippet of the song (with rising country newcomer Kelsea Ballerini) in an Instagram video that has received more than 1 million likes.
