Psy Returns to Hot Dance/Electronic Songs & Hot 100 With ‘Daddy’

The "Gangnam Style" star is back with his new single.

America’s favorite South Korean singer/dancer/rapper, Psy, returns to Billboard‘s charts. His latest, “Daddy,” featuring CL from K-pop girl group 2NE1, debuts at No. 6 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs (dated Dec. 19), as well as No. 97 on the Billboard Hot 100. The new song is Psy’s fourth top 10 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in as many visits. The driving electro track bows with 4,000 downloads sold in its first week, according to Nielsen Music, and 3 million U.S. streams.

PSY broke through in the U.S. in 2012 with “Gangnam Style,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100 for seven weeks; it reached No. 4 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in January 2013, when the chart premiered. He then led the latter list for a week in May 2013 with “Gentleman” (a No. 5 Hot 100 hit) and hit No. 4 in June 2014 with “Hangover,” featuring Snoop Dogg (which reached No. 26 on the Hot 100).

Psy also scores his first entry on Top Dance/Electronic Albums, as PSY 7th Album debuts at No. 7 (1,000 copies sold). In addition to “Daddy,” the album contains a feature from will.i.am (on “ROCKnROLLbaby”) and a mix of Ed Sheeran’s No. 13 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Sing” (the only track not available as an individual download). Psy starts the opus with “Dance Jockey,” which bears an amusing lyrical and musical resemblance to the Beastie Boys’ influential hit “Brass Monkey.”
