The politically-charged supergroup, comprising Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, Cypress Hill MC B Real and Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord, emerged in early 2016 as a RATM side-project.
Now, with Rage poised to reunite in 2020, Chuck D says Prophets of Rage has run its course.
Writing on Twitter, the Hall of Famer said that the outfit was “about doing something greater than self” and theirs was an “honorable truth mission in the hours of chaos from the jump.”
And so “the bands rock on,” he said of the RATM reunion. “Let’s go.”

The group alerted their fans of the split over the weekend. “It’s been an honor to rock stages and people of all ages with these guys,” B-Real wrote on Instagram. “It’s been a great time and great memories in a short time. Rocking along side of Chuck and Tom has been amazing to say the least.”
The goal of Prophets of Rage was “a simple one: The music has to be devastating,” Morello told Billboard, as the heated presidential campaign was in full swing. That year, they released an EP, The Party’s Over, and took their Make America Rage Again tour on the road.
A self-titled debut album dropped in 2017, and peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard 200. The Prophets took their show around the globe, including sets at the inaugural 2018 Download Festival Australia.
In June of this year, the group released a new single “Made With Hate,” and a new album was said to be on the way, slated for release in 2020. And in August, the rockers paid tribute to Chris Cornell by covering the Audioslave’s hit single “Chochise.”
RATM’s comeback was confirmed last Friday with a pair of headlining slots at the Coachella Festival in April 2020.
