Each act reaches No. 1 on the ranking for the fifth time. Post Malone previously topped Pop Airplay with “Circles” (for 10 weeks in 2019-20); “Wow.” (one, 2019); “Better Now” (two, 2018); and “Psycho,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign (four, 2018).
Doja Cat led Pop Airplay before with “Woman” (two weeks, this April); “Need to Know” (one, February); “Kiss Me More,” featuring SZA (one, 2021); and “Say So” (six weeks, 2020).
“I Like You,” from Post Malone’s album Twelve Carat Toothache, released in June, combines notable star power atop Pop Airplay, as it’s just the second collaborative No. 1 in the radio chart’s 30-year history by two acts boasting at least five No. 1s each upon its coronation. In 2010, Lady Gaga’s “Telephone,” featuring Beyoncé, tallied four weeks at the summit, marking the sixth Pop Airplay leader for each superstar.
Doja Cat, meanwhile, is the first artist with three Pop Airplay No. 1s in 2022, breaking out of a tie with Harry Styles. She’s the first act with such a triple in a single year since Justin Bieber in 2016 (“Sorry”; “Love Yourself”; and his featured turn, with MØ, on Major Lazer’s “Cold Water.”) Among women, Taylor Swift last achieved the feat when she ranked at No. 1 with four songs in 2015 (“Blank Space”; “Style”; “Bad Blood,” featuring Kendrick Lamar; and “Wildest Dreams”).
Now with five Pop Airplay No. 1s, all since May 2020, Doja Cat additionally passes Bieber and Styles for the most among all acts so far this decade.
As previously reported, “I Like You” hits a new No. 3 high on the Oct. 1-dated all-genre, multi-metric Billboard Hot 100. Plus, Doja Cat bookends the Pop Airplay top five, as her “Vegas” rises to No. 5.
