P!nk tallies a third week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Just Give Me a Reason,” featuring fun.’s Nate Ruess. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, meanwhile, notch a second leader on Digital Songs and Rihanna ties for the most No. 1s in the Radio Songs chart’s history.
“Reason” remains atop the Hot 100 despite not leading any of the survey’s main component charts. The song holds at No. 3 on Radio Songs, up by 10% to 125 million all-format audience impressions, according to Nielsen BDS; lifts 6-5 on Streaming Songs with a 2% increase to 4.7 million streams, according to BDS; and falls 1-2 after four weeks atop Digital Songs (253,000 downloads sold, down 4%), according to Nielsen SoundScan.
As previously reported, “Reason” rises 2-1 on the Adult Pop Songs radio airplay chart this week, marking her record-setting eighth leader on the list.
“Reason” fends off Macklemore & Lewis’ “Can’t Hold Us,” featuring Ray Dalton (2-2), for a second week on the Hot 100. The latter song, however, becomes the pair’s second career-opening No. 1 on Digital Songs (2-1), increasing by 6% to 259,000 downloads sold; the duo’s “Thrift Shop,” featuring Wanz (down 3-4 on the Hot 100), ruled Digital Songs for 10 weeks. “Hold” leads the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart for a second frame; rises 5-2 on Streaming Songs (on which “Shop” rebounds 2-1 for a sixth week in charge); and bumps 8-6 on Radio Songs.
“Reason” reigns over “Hold” in the tightest race between the Hot 100’s top two titles in almost six months, with the former song collecting just 2% more overall chart points this week. “Reason” gains by 1% and “Hold,” 14%, perhaps setting the stage for “Hold” to hit No. 1 next week.
“Hold” also spends a second week at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Rihanna’s “Stay,” featuring Mikky Ekko, jumps 6-3 on the Hot 100 (returning to its peak position), fueled in part by a milestone 2-1 coronation on Radio Songs (134 million, up 4%). The ballad becomes Rihanna’s 11th No. 1 on Radio Songs, tying her with Mariah Carey for the most leaders dating to the BDS-based chart’s December 1990 inception. Usher ranks third with seven Radio Songs No. 1s, followed by Ludacris and Kanye West, each with six, and 50 Cent, Beyonce, Boyz II Men, Bruno Mars and Katy Perry (five each).
“Stay” bullets at No. 4 on Digital Songs (162,000, up less than 1%) and No. 15 on Streaming Songs (2.9 million, up 10%).
Below Macklemore & Lewis’ “Shop,” Justin Timberlake’s “Mirrors” (7-5) is the Hot 100’s top Airplay Gainer for a second consecutive week. The cut lifts 9-5 on Radio Songs (97 million, up 39%), while pushing 5-3 on Digital Songs (175,000, up 24%) and keeping at No. 9 on Streaming Songs (4 million, up 12%). With its latest sales frame, “Mirrors” passes 1 million downloads sold to date.
Bruno Mars’ “When I Was Your Man” falls 4-6 on the Hot 100 after leading it three weeks ago. It also drops 1-2 after five weeks atop Radio Songs.
Timberlake’s previous single, the No. 3-peaking “Suit & Tie,” featuring Jay-Z, rebounds 8-7 on the Hot 100, while Pitbull’s “Feel This Moment,” featuring Christina Aguilera, returns to its peak (9-8) (and rises 2-1 for a second week atop Dance/Electronic Songs).
Swedish duo Icona Pop reaches the Hot 100’s top 10 with its maiden chart hit, “I Love It,” featuring Charli XCX (13-9). The dance/pop track, aided earlier by its placement in HBO’s “Girls,” bounds 23-14 on Radio Songs (54 million, up 18%) and climbs 8-7 on Digital Songs, with its 133,000 downloads sold (up 5%) pushing it past 1 million sold since its release. The song bullets at No. 23 on Streaming Songs (2.1 million, up 10%).
Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” returns to the Hot 100’s top 10 (12-10) after reaching No. 7 four weeks ago. The track tops Hot Rock Songs for a sixth week.
Outside the top 10, notable for its plunge on the Hot 100 is K-Pop star PSY’s “Gentleman,” which tumbles 5-26. The song debuted at No. 12 two weeks ago, powered by initial online buzz for its video. It falls 1-6 after two weeks atop Streaming Songs (4.7 million U.S. streams, down 66%), even ranking below his breakout hit from last year, “Gangnam Style,” which holds at No. 3 on Streaming Songs (5.3 million, down 22%). (“Gentleman” is now up to 252 million YouTube views worldwide [as of this posting]; the Hot 100, however, includes only U.S. views each week.)
Sales for “Gentleman” also decrease by 50% to 36,000. The song’s 1.2 million in radio audience is not yet a significant factor in its chart fortunes, accounting for just 1% of its Hot 100 chart points.
