Chris Manning has been named U.K. and Europe general manager of The Orchard, overseeing day-to-day operations in one of the company’s key territories.
The London-based exec, who joined The Orchard in 2008 from 7digital, takes up the newly-created position with immediate effect, reporting to Ian Dutt, managing director of The Orchard U.K.
In addition to managing the Sony-owned company’s British operations, Manning will work in close conjunction with The Orchard’s managing directors across Europe to ensure that sales, marketing and communications strategy are in sync across the continent.
Headquartered in New York and London, The Orchard’s European operations includes offices in Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, Paris, Hamburg, Milan, Barcelona and Athens.
“I’d like to thank Ian and The Orchard for this incredible opportunity,” said Manning in a statement announcing his promotion. “I am proud of the work we’ve done as a world-class global music company and I’m very excited to continue working with The Orchard’s fantastic roster of domestic and international artists and labels,” said the exec, whose most recent role with the company was senior director, international operations and business development.
During his decade-long run with The Orchard, Manning has worked across all aspects of the distributor’s business and played a significant role in its 2017 merger with U.K. artist and label services company Red Essential.
He’s also credited with strengthening The Orchard’s global reach through new relationships with digital retailers. Artist releases he oversaw during his time in sales and label management include projects by Carl Cox, Riva Starr, John Dalhback, Steve Aoki, Roger Sanchez and Wretch 32.
“This is a thoroughly warranted promotion for Chris,” said Dutt. “His contribution to The Orchard throughout his tenure cannot be underestimated and I know he will thrive in this new position.”
