One Direction’s ‘Perfect’ Hits No. 1 on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks Chart
The boy band collects a record No. 1 hit, while Drake's 'Hotline Bling' keeps rising. Plus, debuts from Dawin and DNCE!

One Direction collects a record-extending sixth No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart dated Oct. 31, as “Perfect” darts 8-1. (The chart began in May 2014.)
“Perfect” advances after the first full week of activity following its Oct. 16 release, in which several Twitter users speculated the song is a veiled reference to Taylor Swift (a former girlfriend of One Direction’s Harry Styles). The single’s arrival prompted 1.6 million Twitter mentions for the week ending Oct. 18, according to Next Big Sound, a climb of 456 percent. The social activity sends One Direction 7-3 on the Social 50 chart.
The song marks the third release (and top 10 hit) from their upcoming album Made in the A.M., due Nov. 13, following “Drag Me Down” (No. 1, four weeks) and “Infinity” (No. 7)
With its music video premiere on Oct. 20, “Perfect” could secure the group another frame atop the list next week.
Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks is a weekly ranking of the most shared and/or mentioned songs on Twitter in the U.S., ranked by the volume of shares over a seven-day period (Monday to Sunday).
‘Hotline’ Chimes In: One Direction may face serious competition for the No. 1 slot from Drake. The Canadian rapper released his hotly anticipated “Hotline Bling” video on Oct. 19, putting the song in contention for a vault to No. 1 next week. (The track lifts 45-16 on this week’s survey.)
A version of “Hotline Bling” does dial up a top 10 debut this week… just not Drake’s. Rather, R&B singer Kehlani and Charlie Puth’s cover version of the hit song bows at No. 6 after K-pop group BTS tweeted a link to the track. The tweet gathered 33,897 retweets and 52,250 favorites.
“Bling” thus becomes Kehlani’s first top 10 on Billboard + Twitter Tracks and Puth’s second, after “See You Again,” his spring/summer smash with Wiz Khalifa, led for three weeks in April and May.
Dawin’s ‘Dessert’ Debuts: Singer and producer Dawin’s “Dessert” sweetens the chart with a No. 7 debut, and zips 3-1 for a second non-consecutive week in charge of the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists chart. The track, released in March, received a second wind thanks to rapper Silento, who adds vocals on a new version of the song and appears in its music video.
“Dessert” also enters thanks to its recurrence on the popular Filipino show Eat Bulaga! Dawin thanked the program for including the song, earning a retweet from the show’s account, which boasts over 1.6 million Twitter followers.
DNCE DNCE Revolution: DNCE debuts at No. 25 with its debut track, “Cake by the Ocean,” which arrives at No. 2 on the Billboard + Twitter Emerging Charts chart, and climbs 37-34 on its second week on Pop Songs.
Joe Jonas fronts the four-piece band, who released the cut’s music video on Oct. 16. Model Gigi Hadid, Jonas’ girlfriend and noted member of Taylor Swift’s squad, co-directed the clip, which netted 272,000 of the song’s 1.7 million U.S. streams for the week ending Oct. 18, according to Nielsen Music. “Cake” previews the group’s debut EP, Swayy, due Oct. 23.
