“The reaction to ‘Drag Me Down’ has been incredible,” One Direction‘s Niall Horan tells Billboard, after learning that the group’s new single logged the highest debut of the year on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
As previously reported, “Drag Me Down” debuts at No. 3 on the Hot 100 (dated Aug. 22), marking the highest bow of 2015. And, with 350,000 downloads sold in the week ending Aug. 6, according to Nielsen Music, it also earned One Direction its largest sales week ever.
“When we dropped the single we knew we had a good song, but we didn’t expect such a huge reaction,” Horan says. “We definitely didn’t think it would become the highest debut on the Billboard Hot 100 chart this year!
“Again, we need to thank our amazing fans around the world for their constant, unconditional support.”
“Drag Me Down” is the first single from One Direction’s upcoming fifth studio album, due later this year on SYCO/Columbia Records.
