Billboard Dance Chart Upstarts: NOTD & Felix Jaehn, Luca Debonaire & Tony Ruiz, and Party Favor

Each week, Billboard Dance looks at songs and albums rising on Billboard's dance charts.

NOTD & Felix Jaehn feat. Georgia Ku & Captain Cuts, “So Close”

Swedish DJ duo NOTD (Samuel Brandt and Tobias Danielsson), teaming with German DJ Felix Jaehn, soars to new peaks on two Billboard dance charts (dated Jan. 12) with “So Close,” featuring Georgia Ku and Captain Cuts. The track jumps 21-17 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and 41-34 on Dance Club Songs, a week after reaching its No. 23 high on Dance/Mix Show Airplay. “Close” earned 1.8 million U.S. streams and sold 1,000 downloads in the weekly tracking period ending Jan. 3, according to Nielsen Music.

Luca Debonaire & Tony Ruiz, “Understand This House”

Amsterdam-based DJ Luca Debonaire (real name Adri Blok) and Pittsburgh-based DJ Tony Ruiz travel 34-29 on Dance Club Songs with “Understand This House.” The clubby house track, without the assistance of remixes, is the first Billboard chart hit for both DJs.

Ruiz tells Billboard of the long distance collaboration, “We actually hooked up through my interest in languages and Dutch culture. We clicked after we discovered we also both love progressive house and started working on projects remotely. We actually have four more projects in the works!”

Party Favor feat. Naika, “Blame”

Los Angeles-based DJ Party Favor (real name: Dylan Ragland) parks at No. 33 for a second frame on Dance/Mix Show Airplay with “Blame,” featuring Naika. It’s Party Favor’s third chart entry, following “In My Head” (featuring Georgia Ku; No. 7, January 2017) and “Caskets” (with Njomza and featuring Fki 1st; No. 36, September 2017). “Blame” also marks the first Billboard appearance for Miami-based singer Naika. The track takes the bulk of its airplay from core-dance affiliates, including Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel, KNHC (C89.5) Seattle and SiriusXM’s BPM.
