Noel Gallagher Is Flying High on the Midweek U.K. Albums Chart
Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds are ahead of the pack at the midweek stage of the chart race.
Noel Gallagher is off to a flyer as his new album Who Built The Moon (Sour Mash) leads the way on the midweek U.K. chart.
The former Oasis star’s third record with his High Flying Birds clocks up 57,000 combined sales (physical, digital and streaming equivalent) in its first three days after release and is well-placed to take the chart crown this Friday, according to the Official Charts Company.
Noel Gallagher is accustomed to life at the top. Both NGHB albums debuted at No. 1 — Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds in 2011 and Chasing Yesterday — and Oasis hit the summit with eight titles.
The closest rival on the Official Chart Update is Little Mix, whose “Platinum Edition” of Glory Days (Syco Music) soars 50-2 in its 53rd week on the tally, while Sam Smith’s The Thrill Of It All improves 4-3, a deluxe edition of Elvis Presley’s Christmas album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (via Sony Music CG) re-enters the chart at No. 4 and Michael Ball & Alfie Boe’s Together Again (Decca) gains 6-5.
Also chasing high debuts this week are Dutch violinist Andre Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra with the Amore collection starting at No. 6, and veteran alternative rock outfit Elbow, whose Best Of (Polydor) bows at No. 10.
It’s a tight battle for the singles chart crown with Camila Cabello’s current leader “Havana” (Epic/Syco) clinging onto a narrow lead at the halfway stage. Just 200 combined chart sales separate “Havana” and Rita Ora’s No. 2-placed “Anywhere” (Atlantic) on the Official Singles Chart Update, with Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” (Asylum) close behind at No. 3.
