Resellers Are Trying to Turn a Profit on Nipsey Hussle Memorial Tickets

Tickets for the memorial service scheduled for Thursday (April 11) at Staples Center in Los Angeles were going for $400 and more on eBay following the free on-sale Tuesday.

A public memorial for rapper Nipsey Hussle was announced on Tuesday (April 9) with free tickets available to fans who wanted to celebrate the life of the activist who was gunned down on March 31 in Los Angeles. The free tickets were scooped up within minutes with some passes immediately appearing on secondary site for outrageous prices.

Tickets for the memorial service scheduled for Thursday (April 11) at Staples Center in Los Angeles were going for $400 and more on eBay following the free on-sale Tuesday. Four tickets were sold for $400 on the resale site before eBay took action, enacting their free ticketing policy that allows eBay to prohibit the resale of free tickets and its human tragedy policy that bans sellers from profiting off tragedy or suffering.

According to the LA Times, eBay said the transactions for the memorial tickets were not successful and the lister was contacted about the rules prohibiting that conduct on the site.

Ticketer AXS’s landing page for the event specifically detailed that tickets for Nipsey Hussle’s Celebration of Life are not eligible for resale, non-transferable and all members of a group must enter together.

Craiglist has also attempted to scrub the sale of memorial tickets from the site, but ads continue to populate with one seller offering passes for $250 and writing “I will personally go in with you to make sure your place is reserved. Many celebrities will be there. Don’t missed out on a once in a time event. RIP Nipsey.”

Another seller on the site is offering four tickets for $200, stressing the buyer needs to have an AXS account to receive the transfer.

On Tuesday, only California residents were able to acquire tickets for the Thursday memorial with a four ticket limit per person. Doors open at 8am and ticketholders are being encouraged to arrive early since they expect heavy traffic in the area and security screenings.
