Nicole Bus Ties Record for Fastest-Rising Adult R&B No. 1 for a Debut Hit

Nicole Bus' breakthrough single "You" hits No. 1 on Billboard's Adult R&B Songs chart (dated May 18) in record-tying time.

Nicole Bus’ breakthrough single “You” hits No. 1 on Billboard‘s Adult R&B Songs chart (dated May 18) in record-tying time.

The track jumps from No. 4 to No. 1 in just its eighth week on the chart, matching the fastest coronation for an act’s first entry on the ranking. Sparkle‘s “Be Careful” reached the top in its eighth week in June 1998, and Carl Thomas also needed just eight frames for “I Wish” to hit No. 1 in May 2000.

Bus’ “You” takes over atop the tally with a 16% gain in weekly plays, according to Nielsen Music.

In December, “You” became the first entry on any Billboard chart for Bus, who is signed to Roc Nation. It reached No. 12 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and No. 15 on the Hot R&B Songs survey in March.
