Three up-and-coming R&B artists debut on Billboard‘s Emerging Artists chart (dated March 23): Nicole Bus, The Bonfyre and Kiana Ledé.
The Emerging Artists chart ranks the most popular developing artists of the week, using the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures artist activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. (The Artist 100 lists the most popular acts, overall, each week.) However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard‘s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.
Dutch singer Nicole Bus, who signed to Roc Nation last year, debuts the highest of the trio at No. 40, powered by her breakthrough single “You.” The track rises from No. 22 to No. 17 on the Hot R&B Songs chart (which blends streaming, airplay and sales data) and also hits new peaks on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop airplay chart (15-13) and R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (16-13; 13.6 million radio audience impressions, up 12 percent, according to Nielsen Music.)
Atlanta-based singer The Bonfyre debuts at No. 47 on Emerging Artists, fueled by her debut single “Automatic.” Her first charting song logs a second week at No. 1 on the Adult R&B Songs airplay chart; holds at its No. 18 high on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay (11.4 million impressions, up 1 percent); and jumps 24-18 on Hot R&B Songs.
The song from The Bonfyre (full name: Chelsey LaRue) is on Toler Heights/HITCO.
Plus, Los Angeles-based singer/actress Kiana Ledé debuts on Emerging Artists at No. 49, as her breakthrough track “Ex” elevates 17-14 on Hot R&B Songs and also reaches a new peak on the Rhythmic Songs airplay chart (25-23).
Ledé, 21, is signed to Republic Records and also stars on the MTV series Scream.
