After winning the 2019 Latin Grammy for best new artist, New York-based Venezuelan singer Nella has signed to Sony Music Latin, Billboard has learned.
At the time of signing with Sony Music Latin’s president Alex Gallardo, she was accompanied by her mentor, Grammy and Latin Grammy-winning producer Javier Limón.
“Nella is a unique voice,” Gallardo said in a statement. “She was born in Margarita, Venezuela, but it could well have been in Seville or Cádiz. In it, tradition and modernity mix perfectly. She found the perfect ally in producer Javier Limón and with him she has brought us a delicious and unmistakable artistic proposal. The Latin Grammy for best new artist attests to this.”
Nella added, “As a Latina, and a young artist, joining the Sony family is a dream. I know that our dedication and passion will take us to places we can’t imagine.”
Nella (real name: Marianella Rojas) is a Berklee College of Music graduate whose music fuses her country’s folklore roots with contemporary sounds and melodies from the Andalusian region. In 2019 she released her debut album Voy — composed of music and production by Limón — and she has performed with top-notch artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Carlos Vives, and many more.
After receiving the golden gramophone from Angela Aguilar, De La Ghetto and Rudy Mancuso, Nella thanked her family, her producer and mentor Limón, and her country for the accolade. “This is for everyone who, like me, comes from another country looking for new opportunities,” she said.
Nella will soon release her debut single under Sony Music Latin.
