Rock band Modest Mouse is aiming for its second top 10 album on the Billboard 200 chart with Strangers To Ourselves. Industry forecasters say the new set, which was released on March 17 through Epic Records, may move around 65,000 in album equivalent units by the end of the tracking week on March 22.
That should be a large enough total to secure the album a top five launch on next week’s Billboard 200. Ahead of it will likely be Kendrick Lamar‘s early release To Pimp a Butterfly, which should fly in at No. 1 with over 330,000 units. It would mark the rapper’s his first No. 1 album.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200’s top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, March 25.
Modest Mouse’s last studio album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It sold 129,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen Music.
After Lamar and Modest Mouse, watch for Marina and the Diamonds‘ Froot to possibly start in the top 10. It might launch with around 45,000 units. It will mark the first top 10 set for the act, which previously peaked at No. 31 with 2012’s Electra Heart.
