Breaking Down the Solo Histories of Migos’ Quavo, Offset & Takeoff on the Hot 100 & Billboard 200

As Offset‘s debut solo album Father of 4 debuts at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart (dated March 9), with 89,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Feb. 28, according to Nielsen Music, the Migos member also lands six tracks on the Billboard Hot 100 (also dated March 9): “ZEZE,” with Kodak Black and featuring Travis Scott (No. 25); “Legacy,”featuring Scott and 21 Savage (No. 49); “Red Room” (No. 50); “Clout,” featuring Cardi B (No. 64); “How Did I Get Here,” featuring J. Cole (No. 65); and “Lick” (No. 86).

With the Father of 4 debut, all three members of Migos have now charted solo albums on the Billboard 200. To recap, Offset branched out first, as his collaborative album with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin, Without Warning, reached No. 4 in November 2017. Then, Quavo teamed up with Scott for Huncho Jack, Jack Huncho (billed as Huncho Jack) in January 2018 — the set debuted and peaked at No. 3. Individually, Quavo dropped his solo album (the first pure solo set among the Migos members) Quavo Huncho later that year, which hit No. 2 in October. Takeoff followed suit three weeks later with The Last Rocket, which debuted and peaked at No. 4 in November.

Here’s a look at each of those albums, plus Migos’ albums, ranked by first-week equivalent album unit totals. (Note that Quavo Huncho debuted at No. 66 from just a few hours of activity on the Oct. 20, 2018-dated chart, so below is the total for its first full tracking week.)

In terms of unaccompanied solo albums, Offset’s Father of 4 (89,000) debuted with just less than Quavo’s Quavo Huncho (99,000) but significantly more than Takeoff’s The Last Rocket (49,000). But looking at first-week totals, the Migos members perform better as a group, as their latest album, Culture II, debuted with 199,000 units, the top total of any group or solo project, while Culture launched with 131,000.

On the Hot 100, Migos have logged 34 total entries, including one No. 1: “Bad and Boujee,” featuring Lil Uzi Vert, for three weeks beginning Jan. 21, 2017. Mirroring the first full tracking weeks of their solo albums, Quavo boasts the most charted Hot 100 titles, followed, in the same order, by Offset and Takeoff.

When we break down how each of their songs has performed on the Hot 100, Quavo sports five top 10s, which actually outpaces Migos’ four; still, Migos’ four top 10s have all been in lead roles, while no member of the act has yet hit the top 10 as a lead soloist. Offset has earned two top 10s and Takeoff is awaiting his first.

So what does it all mean? In short, Migos have become an undeniable chart force and all three members have built impressive chart resumés on their own. However, the Migos are clearly at their best when recording as a trio. Migos have earned 10 top 40 Hot 100 hits, more than Quavo, Offset and Takeoff as soloists combined. On the albums front, Culture and Culture II are the group’s top-performing titles, as they not only debuted with the highest totals but remain their only No. 1 sets to date.
