Michael Bublé’s ‘Christmas’ Passes One Million Sales Milestone Down Under

Just three albums have been Diamond-certified Down Under.

Michael Bublé’s enduring holiday hit Christmas (Reprise/Warner) has some extra sparkle. It’s been certified double diamond in Australia, in recognition of sales in excess of one million units.

Christmas has racked up 50 weeks on the ARIA Albums Chart and peaked at No. 1 on the survey each Christmas for four years following its 2011 release. The album currently sits at No. 2, just behind John Farnham & Olivia Newton-John’s Friends for Christmas, and it has charted in the top 5 in December every year since release. According to Warner Music, Christmas has been No. 1 on the Australian iTunes album chart every Christmas Day since 2011.

Only Ed Sheeran’s x (Warner Music) and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Big Machine/Universal) have been awarded diamond certification, although historically other albums have passed the 500,000 sales threshold (Adele’s 21, for example, is 15-times platinum and 25 is 8-times platinum). Sheeran was presented with the first ever Diamond Award at the 2015 ARIA Awards. This, however, is the first time that any set has been certified double diamond.

Christmas could return to No.1 for a 14th week if the set climbs after the recent screening of Bublé’s Live At The BBC Christmas special on free-to-air TV.
