The debut Metarama Gaming + Music Festival has revealed an all-star lineup of musicians and gaming talent including Marshmello, Ninja, Logic, Jacksepticeye, Snoop Dogg and Imagine Dragons, who will be making a gaming appearance only.
The Las Vegas festival will also see appearances from Sodapoppin, Alan Walker, Nick Eh 30, DrLupo, Lindsey Stirling, Pokimane, Diesel (Shaquille O’Neal), NickMercs, Lil Yachty and Grouplove for musical and/or gaming sets.
From Oct. 19-20, Metarama will take over the Las Vegas Festival Grounds with two interchanging stages of live music, gaming, esports and comedy produced by C3 Presents and Esports Hospitality Concepts
“There is a natural fit between gaming and music,” C3 Presents’ Charlie Walker tells Billboard. “At some point everybody is a gamer. There is a huge overlap in that people coming to our festivals are also gamers.”
On the main stage, fans will get a rare chance to witness Metarama Masters, a celebrity Pro-Am tournament featuring top level musicians and gamers from the festival lineup playing some of today’s top games together. There will also be professional esports including Overwatch League exhibition matches: Philadelphia Fusion vs. Seoul Dynasty, and Guangzhou Charge vs. San Francisco Shock, and League of Legends: Pros vs. Joes tournament finals.
Metarama will also host a massive Streamer Zone, where fans will have an opportunity to play with some of the world’s most famous streamers, as well as a LAN Center, featuring daylong amateur tournaments where gaming enthusiasts can compete for prizes.
The festival’s Freeplay Zone will feature multiple diverse game titles available for play and other free-to-play areas will include amateur esports car racing, a vintage arcade with classic cabinet style games and a tabletop gaming area with the best of card and board games. Fans can also interact with VR experiences and be spectators for professional drone racing.
Says Walker says of Metarama’s inception, “[Esports Hospitality Concepts co-founder] Scott London called me one day and said what do you think about doing a festival like you do at Lollapalooza but with music and video gaming as the centerpieces?”
Walker, whose C3 Presents also puts on Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits Music Festival, jumped at the idea and along with London landed on Las Vegas as a “no-brainer.”
“When we looked at it from 30,000 feet, it looked like Vegas was ahead of the curve a little bit on gravitating towards esports with what they did at the Luxor with the HyperX Esports Arena,” says Walker. “It seemed like a logical place to go. It is easy to get to. MGM has a great site at the festival grounds. It checked a lot of boxes for us.”
