The performance of Marshmello‘s high-profile “Silence” collaboration with R&B star Khalid has been anything but silent in its first week, debuting at No. 42 on the Hot 100 and earning the highest ranking debut of any song on the chart on Tuesday (Aug. 22).
It’s also worth mentioning that the dance ballad rolled in at No. 6 on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, right behind Cheat Codes‘ “No Promises” single with Demi Lovato.
To put the above chart achievements in perspective, Marshmello’s standout single “Alone,” released on May 13, 2016, didn’t debut on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart until June 4 where it debuted at No. 29. The record eventually climbed its way onto the Hot 100, but peaked at No. 60.
“Silence” is both Marshmello and Khalid’s highest debut on the Hot 100; the R&B singer’s previous best was No. 61 with “Rollin”, the star-studded single off Calvin Harris‘ Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 that also features rapper Future. “Location” debuted at No. 77 for Khalid, peaking later on at No. 16.
According to Nielsen Music, “Silence” has accrued 12.5 million U.S. streams for the week as of Aug. 17 and currently sits at No. 24 on Streaming Songs.
