Marshmello & Bastille’s ‘Happier’ Breaks Record for Longest No. 1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart
Plus, moves for Jack Back, Diplo & Lil Nas X.
Marshmello and Bastille‘s “Happier” sets a new standard for the most weeks spent at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, as the collaboration spends a 34th week at the summit (on the tally dated May 18).
The song breaks out of a tie with Zedd, Maren Morris and Grey’s “The Middle,” which logged 33 weeks at No. 1 last year.
“Happier” hit No. 1 on Sept. 29, 2018, and has yet to relinquish the top spot. It’s the sixth song since the chart’s January 2013 inception to eclipse 20 weeks on top:

In other Marshmello news, the masked DJ spends a second week at No. 2 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with “Here With Me,” featuring CHVRCHES, and returns for a second week (after an appearance at No. 47 in July 2018) with “Paralyzed,” following the premiere of its official video May 2. The song from Marshmello’s former Top Dance/Electronic Albums No. 1 set Joytime II more than doubled to 1 million on-demand U.S. streams in the week ending May 9, according to Nielsen Music.
‘PHONE’ NUMBER 1: David Guetta, via alias Jack Back, banks his 13th Dance Club Songs No. 1 with “Put Your Phone Down (Low)” (2-1). His third leader under the Jack Back alias follows “(It Happens) Sometimes” (December 2018) and “Wild One Two” (featuring David Guetta, Nicky Romero and SIA; May 2012).
“Phone,” which achieves its chart-topping status without the aid of official remixes, lifts Guetta to within one No. 1 of the most among male acts, dating to the list’s August 1976 inception as a national survey; Dave Aude, Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull lead the category with 14 each. Madonna leads all artists with 46 No. 1s (while her first entry since 2015, ” Medellín,” with Maluma, jumps 35-23 in its second week on the chart).
DIPLO DEBUTS: Diplo opens at No. 2 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales and No. 23 on Dance/Electronic Album Sales with Higher Ground, as the house music EP launches on the latter list with 2,000 equivalent album units.
Diplo also debuts at No. 22 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs with the set’s “Win Win,” featuring Tove Lo. The 27th entry for the DJ and fifth for the Swedish singer sold 3,000 downloads in the tracking week, also good for a No. 4 start on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart.
TAKING HIS HORSE TO THE TOP 10: Lil Nas X notches his first Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10, as does featured performer Billy Ray Cyrus, as “Old Town Road” rides 11-8. The smash continues at No. 1 for a sixth total week atop the Billboard Hot 100.
