Margo Price Debuts on Emerging Artists Chart, Dua Lipa Returns to No. 1

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Margo Price, signed to Jack White‘s Third Man Records, earns the highest debut on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart (dated Nov. 11), entering at No. 6 on the strength of her sophomore album, All American Made.

The Emerging Artists chart uses the same formula as the all-encompassing Billboard Artist 100, which measures activity across multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard 200 and the Social 50. However, the Emerging Artists chart excludes acts that have notched a top 25 entry on either the Hot 100 or Billboard 200, as well as artists that have achieved two or more top 10s on Billboard’s “Hot” song genre charts and/or consumption-based “Top” album genre rankings.

All American Made opens at No. 12 on the Top Country Albums chart and No. 89 on the Billboard 200 with 7,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music. Price’s debut, Midwest Farmer’s Daughter, opened with 4,000 units in April 2016 (and at No. 10 on Top Country Albums). The new set concurrently starts at No. 3 on Vinyl Albums and No. 4 on Americana/Folk Albums.

The new album, which features Willie Nelson on the track “Learning to Lose,” arrives three months after the surprise release of her four-song EP, Weakness (also released on Third Man).

Dua Lipa returns to the No. 1 spot on Emerging Artists for a fifth total week, as the pop singer-songwriter’s breakout hit “New Rules” continues to scale the Hot 100, reaching a new peak of No. 34. The track jumps by 8 percent in both airplay (to 24 million radio audience impressions) and streaming (to 15 million U.S. clicks) and 7 percent to 17,000 downloads sold.

Rounding out the Emerging Artists chart’s top five, last week’s leader, Carly Pearce, dips to No. 2, LANCO climbs 4-3, Russell Dickerson falls 3-4 and GoldLink holds at No. 5.

Among other Emerging Artists moves, Devin Dawson enters the top 10, leaping 23-9, as his first charted single, “All on Me,” reaches new peaks on Country Airplay (No. 19) and Hot Country Songs (No. 21). The single rises in all metrics, up 10 percent to 13.4 million in airplay audience; 8 percent to 3.2 million U.S. streams; and 6 percent to 5,000 downloads sold.

Also notably, Michigan rock group Greta Van Fleet vaults 39-14, as the band’s debut EP, Black Smoke Rising, debuts at Nos. 10 and 182 on the Hard Rock Albums and Billboard 200 charts, respectively, with 5,000 units. The set was released on April 21 but received newfound buzz thanks to a profile in the Wall Street Journal. The group’s next EP, From the Fires, is due Nov. 10.
