Manuel Turizo, Julian Turizo, Jay Wheeler & More Sign With Sony Publishing

Manuel Turizo, Julian Turizo, Jay Wheeler, Cazzu, Nicki Nicole, Bizarrap, C. Tangana and Kany García sign worldwide publishing agreements with Sony Music Publishing Latin.

Sony Music Publishing’s Latin division has entered into an exclusive multi-year worldwide publishing agreement with Colombian brothers and hitmakers Manuel and Julian Turizo. Recording artist Manuel Turizo, who is signed to Sony US Latin, broke out with 2017’s “Una Lady Como Tu” and has released a string of hits since, co-written with brother Julián. Most recently, “La Nota,” featuring Myke Towers and Rauw Alejandro, peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart, and “Mala Costumbre,” with Wisin and Yandel, peaked at No. 4 on the Global Ex US chart.

They’re the latest in a string of high-profile Latin signings for Sony since the beginning of the pandemic. In the past nine months, the publisher also scooped up Myke Towers, who is dominating global charts; Argentine rising stars Nicki Nicole and Cazzu; Argentine producer Bizarrap; Spanish star C. Tangana; Colombian producer Sky; Puerto Rican rapper Jay Wheeler; and multi-Latin Grammy winner Kany García.

“It’s been a hugely prolific time,” says Jorge Mejía, president & CEO of Sony Music Publishing for Latin America and US Latin. “There are many possibilities to sign and discover.”

Those possibilities have considerable broadened since streaming has opened up the platforms available to Latin music. Acts that once would have been considered niche or regional, for example, are now finding broad audiences that translate into millions of views.

“It’s different in that what we consider Latin music today has evolved quite a bit,” says Mejía. “Manuel and his brother Julián have an urban bent, and Nicki and Bizarrap come from Argentina with a trap bent. But they’re not different in that we believe in them at the end of the day.”

Beyond the Turizos, Sony also signed Myke Towers, widely viewed as one of the most exciting rising Latin rappers today and recently signed to Warner Records. Towers has placed seven top 10 hits on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in the past year and his 2020 album Easy Money Baby debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.

Sony also entered into exclusive worldwide publishing agreements with Jay Wheeler, Cazzu, Nicki Nicole, Bizarrap, C. Tangana and Kany García.

García, known for her finely crafted albums and exquisite songwriting, is a multi Latin Grammy winner whose Mesa para dos is nominated for a Grammy award this year.

Wheeler, a dynamic rising reggaetón’ act, saw his “La curiosidad” peak at No. 5 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

From Argentina, Bizarrap is an internationally known producer notorious for his Bzrp Music Sessions and Bzrp Freestyle Sessions. Cazzu, signed to Universal Music Latin and known for her incisive lyrics, gained international success with her singles “Loca (remix)” alongside Bad Bunny, Khea & Duki, and “Toda (remix)” with Alex Rose, Rauw Alejandro & Lenny Tavarez.

Nicki Nicole, signed to Sony Music Latin, blends trap, pop and R&B. Her recent collaboration with Bizarrap and Trueno, “Mamichula,” hit the global Spotify charts and has over 160 million streams.
