“Hawai” is the first single off Papi Juancho, Maluma’s fifth studio album due out later this year. The song was co-written by Maluma alongside Keityn, Edgar Barrera and Bull Nene and produced by Rude Boy.
“Its amazing to see how much people are embracing this song that it is quickly becoming a solid hit single!” Maluma tells Billboard. “I can’t thank my fans enough for this.”
Hot Latin Songs blends airplay, digital sales and streaming activity. “Hawai” arrives on the tally mainly on the strength of streaming data. In its first full tracking week following its July 29 release – with its music video – “Hawai” drew 3 million U.S. streams in the week ending Aug. 6, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, yielding a No. 9 debut on the Latin Streaming Song Sales chart.
It concurrently sold a little over 1,000 in downloads which surges up the Latin Digital Song Sales list with a 20-3 hike.
Maluma last visited the Hot Latin Songs’ top 10 over a year ago, when “HP” peaked at No. 8 (June 1, 2019-dated list). In between he placed a total of eight titles on the tally, none of which hit top 10.
His highest ranking on the chart, however, arrived in 2016 through his featured role in Shakira’s “Chantaje.” His first and only No. 1 on the tally, ruled for 11 nonconsecutive weeks starting Nov. 19, 2016.
Elsewhere on Hot Latin Songs, “ADMV” remains in the chart’s top 20 (at No. 18) after its No. 14 peak on the July 11-dated survey.
