Magic! Signs With Red Light Management: Exclusive
Magic!, the Canadian pop-reggae group that found massive success in 2014 with the chart-topping single "Rude," is planning for a big 2017 and starting with a change in management.
Magic!, the Canadian pop-reggae group that found massive success in 2014 with the chart-topping single “Rude,” is planning for a big 2017 and starting with a change in management.
“We have brought Jonathan Shank and Red Light Management onboard,” Magic! frontman Nasri tells Billboard exclusively. “We are so impressed with all of the great work they’ve done with some of our favorite bands and we look forward to all that’s to come.”
Red Light represents some 300 artists including Dave Matthews Band, Chris Stapleton, Phish and Alabama Shakes and has offices in Charlottesville, Virginia, Nashville, Los Angeles and New York, among other cities.

Says Shank: “Nasri and I have known one another for a few years and have always shared similar sensibilities, and this seemed like a natural evolution of the relationship. It felt like a perfect time to collaborate as the band started working on their next record with a renewed energy and passion. I’ve always thought Nasri was not only a first-class songwriter, but also a unique, soulful, and powerful lead singer. As a longtime fan of the band, I couldn’t be more excited to help bring Magic! to new heights.”
The group was previously represented by Charles Chavez of Latium Entertainment, who stays on as Magic’s label partner. “We have been a one-stop shop for Magic! — label and management — from the minute we heard ‘Rude,’ ” Latium CEO Chavez tells Billboard. “As we renew their deal for their next album, we welcome Coran Capshaw and his Red Light Management team. Magic! remain signed to Latium/Sony Music International/RCA for the world and we are looking forward to their next big hit.”
“Rude” was No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 13 weeks in 2014 — ending the year as the 7th biggest song.
The group released its second album, Primary Colours, in July 2016, and is currently hard at work on its third. Says Nasri: “It’s by far the most poetic and personal group of songs we’ve made to date.”
