Logic’s ‘1-800-273-8255’ Is Now Highest-Charting Phone Number in Hot 100 History

At No. 3, the song passes Tommy Tutone's No. 4-peaking '80s classic "867-5309/Jenny."

Logic connects with history on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. On the chart dated Sept. 30, the rapper’s “1-800-273-8255,” featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid, lifts from No. 5 to No. 3.

The move grants the song a record, as it becomes the highest-charting title featuring a phone number in the Hot 100’s 59-year history.

“1-800-273-8255” passes the only other such song ever to previously ascend to the Hot 100’s top five: Tommy Tutone‘s pop-rock classic “867-5309/Jenny,” which climbed to No. 4 in 1982.

Here is an updated look at the Hot 100 hits with phone numbers as (or part of) their titles, ranked by peak position:

No. 3 (to date), “1-800-273-8255,” Logic feat. Alessia Cara & Khalid, 2017
No. 4, “867-5309/Jenny,” Tommy Tutone, 1982
No. 13, “634-5789 (Soulsville, U.S.A.),” Wilson Pickett, 1966
No. 17, “Beechwood 4-5789,” The Marvelettes, 1962 (the title includes a now-long-defunct telephone exchange name)
No. 32, “853-5937,” Squeeze, 1988
No. 38, “911,” Wyclef Jean feat. Mary J. Blige, 2000
No. 88, “777-9311,” The Time, 1982

On a more serious note, “1-800-273-8255” doubles as the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Says Khalid, “I feel like a song like this was necessary.”
