Double Take: Lizzo Is Nos. 1 and 2 On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart
Lizzo gains membership into a rare club as she owns both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the same week.

Lizzo gains membership into a rare club in the Billboard books as she owns both the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in the same week.
Her “Truth Hurts” leads the latest ranking, dated Nov. 9, for a 10th nonconsecutive week, while “Good As Hell” skips 7-2 thanks in part to a new remix featuring Ariana Grande.
With the pair, Lizzo becomes the 20th artist in the chart’s 61-year history to land the one-two punch. Among female acts, she’s only the third: Alicia Keys first broke the barrier for four weeks in 2007-08 thanks to “No One” and “Like You’ll Never See Me Again,” while Iggy Azalea also managed the feat for one week in 2014 through “Fancy,” featuring Charli XCX and “Black Widow,” featuring Rita Ora.
Stevie Wonder first inaugurated the club in 1986 with “That’s What Friends Are For,” as part of Dionne & Friends and his own “Go Home.”
Back to this week: “Truth” retains the crown despite a slide in the three metrics that power the chart: radio airplay, song download sales and streams. The single backtracks 8-11 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay through a 17% dive to 15 million in audience in the week ending Nov. 3, according to Nielsen Music.
Sales shrink by 12% to 15,000 downloads sold in the week ending Oct. 31, prompting a 1-2 fall on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs chart after the song led for nine nonconsecutive weeks. Streams, meanwhile, suffer a 22% plunge to 17 million U.S. clicks in the same period, resulting in a 7-16 slide on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs.
Conversely, “Good” makes sweeping gains and seizes the triple crown of chart awards on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs: The Airplay Gainer, Sales Gainer and Streaming Gainer honors. The influx of activity comes after the first tracking week of a new remix featuring Ariana Grande, released Nov. 1. (The Grande remix accounts for less than half of the total charts points for “Good” in the tracking week, precluding Grande from being billed on the chart.)
“Good” shoots to No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales with a 110% week-over-week increase to 29,000 sold in the week ending Oct. 31, the first self-replacement at No. 1 there since Drake’s “Nice For What” toppled “God’s Plan” in April 2018. The song’s streams, meanwhile, rise to 17.3 million in the U.S., up 24% from the prior week, and trigger a 22-14 jump on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs.
Radio airplay ascends to 67 million in audience in the week ending Nov. 3, up 28% from the week prior. Thanks to the latest burst, “Good” captures the Airplay Gainer award for a fifth straight week, the longest streak on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart since “Truth Hurts” took the prize for eight consecutive frames in July – August.
