Late rapper Lil Peep makes his first Billboard Hot 100 appearance, as “Awful Things” debuts at No. 79 (on the chart dated Dec. 9), following the first full tracking week after his Nov. 15 death at age 21. It also marks his first entry on any Billboard songs chart.
The song gained by 144 percent to 8.2 million U.S. streams, as well as 190 percent to 3,000 downloads sold, in the week ending Nov. 23, according to Nielsen Music. The sales sum is also good for a No. 16 debut on the Alternative Digital Song Sales chart.
Lil Peep first reached a Billboard chart when he debuted at No. 10 on the Social 50 survey dated June 24. On Sept. 2, “Awful Things” parent EP Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 1 arrived on multiple rankings, including Rap Album Sales at No. 23.
After his death, the EP entered the Dec. 2-dated Billboard 200 at No. 168. This week, it bounds to No. 38, up 216 percent to 16,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 23. It concurrently climbs 14-3 on Alternative Albums and debuts at No. 13 on Top Rap Albums.
Lil Peep, whose real name was Gustav Ahr, re-entered the Social 50 dated Dec. 2 at a new peak of No. 9 (he ranks at No. 12 this week), sparked by social media activity after his death. He died in Tucson, Arizona, from a suspected drug overdose.
