Lil Nas X scores his first No. 1 on a Billboard chart with “Old Town Road,” which vaults to No. 1 on the On-Demand Streaming Songs tally dated April 6.
“Old Town Road” rises 14-1 on the latest list, becoming not only Lil Nas X’s first top 10 on the chart but also his first leader. In the March 22-28 tracking week, the song racked up 20.2 million streams on on-demand audio services, according to Nielsen Music, a boost of 66 percent.
Lil Nas X becomes the third artist to score their first On-Demand Streaming Songs No. 1 with their first title to chart on the tally, following YNW Melly (“Murder On My Mind,” March 23) and Jonas Brothers (“Sucker,” March 16).
That gain also helps the song into the top 10 of the Streaming Songs chart, which includes all streams that count toward the Billboard charts. There, “Old Town Road” launches 17-7 with 29.1 million total streams.
It’s the Atlanta artist’s first top 10 on Streaming Songs, reaching the chart’s top 10 in just its third week on the list, after debuting at No. 36 on the March 23-dated ranking.
Concurrently, “Old Town Road” reaches a new peak on the Billboard Hot 100, moving 32-15 as the all-format hybrid chart’s greatest gainer in streaming for the second week in a row.
“Old Town Road” originally caught on in the U.S. thanks to a viral challenge on the social media app TikTok, which incorporated the song.
