Lil Mama’s ‘Sausage’ Sizzles on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks Chart

The rapper's comeback hit nets a top 20 debut on Twitter Top Tracks, while The Weeknd's "The Hills" crashes in at No. 1. Plus, new tracks from Diplo and Disclosure!

Rapper Lil Mama returned to the Billboard charts this week for the first time since 2008, as her new single “Sausage” debuts at No. 16 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks dated June 13. The throwback cut (which samples Slick Rick‘s 1988 track “Mona Lisa”) arrived with immediate appeal, racking up more than 3 million worldwide views on YouTube.

Besides ending Lil Mama’s six-year chart absence, “Sausage” has fueled interest in the rapper in general. Her Wikipedia page views spiked to 19,000 for the week ending May 31, according to Next Big Sound — a whopping gain of more than 1,080 percent. The song’s old-school flavor has also attracted noteworthy praise on Twitter from several rappers including Missy Elliott, MC Lyte and Azealia Banks.

The Weeknd’s “Hills” Tops:  The Weeknd notched his first No. 1 on the year-old Top Tracks survey as “The Hills” debuted in the penthouse, unseating Taylor Swift‘s “Bad Blood” (which moved 1-2) after one week on top. The R&B singer nearly earned his first chart topper on three prior occasions: his “Love Me Harder” duet with Ariana Grande stopped at No. 2 in November of 2014, while singles “Often” and “Earned It (Fifty Shades of Grey)” both climbed to No. 3.

“Hills” conquered the chart thanks to 5.2 million U.S. streams for the week, aided by the releases of the cut’s audio and music video on May 27. The big streaming sum granted the track strong debuts on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs (No. 7) and the Billboard Hot 100 (No. 20). “The Hills” is expected to feature on the The Weeknd’s upcoming album, due later this year.

Call the “Doctor”: The foursome of Diplo, CL, RiFF RaFF and OG Maco combine forces on “Doctor Pepper,” which bubbled to a No. 11 bow on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks. The song marks one of the earliest English language releases for CL, a South Korean pop star and member of the group 2NE1. The quartet’s collaboration has nabbed more than 2.1 million global plays on Soundcloud since its premiere on May 22.

Disclosure Returns: Disclosure earned a No. 24 start for “Holding On,” which features singer Gregory Porter. The British brother duo unveiled the track on May 26 and confirmed it as the lead single from their forthcoming sophomore album, the follow-up to 2013’s Settle. The official “Holding” audio has grabbed more than 1.2 million views on YouTube since its May 26 arrival, helping the track launch at No. 26 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs.
