Pandora Predictions to Know: Let’s Eat Grandma, Tokyo Jetz, Badflower & Everette

Here are the latest predictions for future success on the Billboard charts from Pandora & Next Big Sound.

The Billboard Hot 100 may be quite Drake-y lately, with the Toronto rapper seeing a record-breaking 27 songs simultaneously on the chart dated July 14. But there are plenty of artists who are not Drake – or Cardi B, for that matter – who are heating up on other charts.

One of those is the Next Big Sound Chart, powered by the Pandora-owned data analytics company Next Big Sound. The chart aims to predict the 20 artists who are most likely to make their debut on the Billboard 200 chart within the next year, all based on a patented algorithm that looks at artists’ growth on social media and streaming over the past 90 days.

Past chart artists include Alessia Cara, Dua Lipa and, most recently, XXL Freshman Class member Stefflon Don. In other words, Next Big Sound has a pretty good track record.

Tokyo Jetz

The Next Big Sound Chart has had no shortage of female rappers lately, including Rico Nasty, Cupcakke and Cuban Doll. The latest? Tokyo Jetz, a poet-turned-MC from Jacksonville, Fla., who’s signed to T.I.’s Grand Hustle Records.

Her rise can be traced back to her 2016 viral freestyle of “Down in the DM,” which prompted T.I. to meet with her. Now she’s starting to see more mainstream attention as she prepares to release her new project Baby Goat, led by singles “The One” and “No Problem.”

Month-over-month, Tokyo Jetz has seen a 150 percent increase in artist station adds and a 200 percent lift in track station adds. More good news: Her artist station adds are heavily outpacing her track station adds, a good indication that she’s no case of a one-hit wonder. On Twitter, she’s seen a 420 percent increase in followers and a 225 percent increase in mentions month-on-month. Tokyo Jetz debuts on the Predictions Chart dated July 13 at No. 3.


In launching Big Machine/John Varvatos Records last year, Scott Borcheta and John Varvatos had a goal of “finding and enabling the next great rock artists.” Their first find? Badflower, a Los Angeles-based rock band that won over critics with its 2016 EP, Temper.

It looks like their bet on Badflower was a good one. The band debuts on the Predictions Chart at No. 5 after the success of its new single “Ghost,” off Badflower’s upcoming debut studio album. This month compared to last month, the band’s seen an 820 percent increase in artist station adds, a 760 percent boost in spins and a 300 percent increase in Facebook page likes.

The song is already making waves on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart, climbing 17-15 — a new peak — on the July 21-dated ranking in just its fifth week on the survey.


Brent Rupard and Anthony Olympia have emerged as one of the most promising new country acts since signing to Broken Bow Records  — home of Jason Aldean and Dustin Lynch – earlier this year. Everette has been particularly popular since the release of “Slow Roll,” a carefree country pop song that comes with a catchy chorus and a reference to Matthew McConaughey’s “alright alright alright” catchphrase.

The song has proved to be the breakout hit for the Kentucky natives, debuting at No. 60 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart dated July 21. They followed it up with their Slow Roll EP on June 29, which has helped them see an 85 percent increase in artist station adds month-on-month.

Everette debuts on the Predictions Chart at No. 18.

Let’s Eat Grandma

Despite its menacing name, British duo Let’s Eat Grandma is having no problems luring people to its “experimental sludge pop,” as they call it.  The pair (teenagers Rosa Walton and Jenny Hollingworth) debut at No. 9 on the Predictions Chart following the release of their sophomore album I’m All Ears on June 29.

This month compared to last month, Let’s Eat Grandma has seen a 175 percent increase in Pandora artist station adds, a 935 percent boost in Twitter followers and a 540 percent jump in traffic to its Wikipedia page.
