Legacy Music Group Lifts Off, Headed by Jovan Dawkins and A&R Chief Eric Dawkins: Exclusive
Jovan Dawkins is launching the inspirational label Legacy Music Group, Billboard can reveal.

Entertainment executive Jovan Dawkins is announcing the launch of inspirational label Legacy Music Group. Heading the label’s A&R division as president is Grammy Award-nominated singer-songwriter and Dawkins’ cousin Eric Dawkins. The initial roster for Los Angeles-based Legacy includes Grammy, Stellar and Dove Award-winning artist Fred Hammond, Tasha and Dawkins & Dawkins.
Referencing his ministerial work as well, Jovan Dawkins stated, “My goal was to launch something that’s part of my traditional background from a musical perspective. I also hope to provide a comfortable space to produce and approach music in a different way that ideally inspires others and honors my family’s legacy.”
That legacy includes Dawkins & Dawkins, the gospel and Christian R&B duo comprised of Eric and his brother Anson. The pair is best known for charting two hit albums on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart, From Now On (No. 4) and Focus (No. 10) plus songs such as “Everybody Needs Somebody,” “Need to Know” and “Praisin’ on My Mind.”
A former member of the Underdogs production team, Eric has collaborated on projects by Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Mary J. Blige, Babyface and Mary Mary among others. His work has also been heard in various films including Dream Girls, A Shark’s Tale and The Help (the Academy Award-nominated “The Living Proof”).
“With Legacy Music Group, we are getting back to the true art and origin of artist development by being involved in every aspect of a project from conception to completion,” said Eric. “Artist development is not just a position; the process is paramount at the label. It is our goal to give every artist an opportunity to be the best they can be.”
Hammond’s most recent hit is “Tell Me Where It Hurts,” which peaked at No. 14 on Billboard’s Hot Gospel Songs tally last May. He also guests on the track “Hands On” from Kanye West’s Jesus Is King album. Formerly known as Tasha Page-Lockhart, Tasha will make her Legacy Music Group debut on Feb. 26 with the single “Why Not Me.” Also in the Legacy pipeline: the soundtrack for the forthcoming biopic about the gospel group Commissioned.
