Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks is a weekly ranking of the most shared and/or mentioned songs on Twitter in the U.S., ranked by the volume of shares over a seven-day period (Monday to Sunday).
“Illusion” makes its move following the song’s official release Sept. 9 after its radio debut a few hours prior. The track, produced by Gaga, Mark Ronson, Bloodpop and Kevin Parker of Tame Impala, leads the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming studio album, Joanne, due Oct. 21. The song should also arrive on the Billboard Hot 100 next week, where it may begin with a top 20 debut.
Gaga’s new release naturally ignited her social platforms, including a 726 percent gain in Twitter mentions to 339,000 in the week ending Sept. 11, according to Next Big Sound. The social flurry — with concurrent bumps on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube — powers Gaga to a No. 5 re-entry on the Social 50 chart. Sia & Beyonce Make News: A new track also pays dividends for Sia, who bows at No. 3 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks chart with “The Greatest,” featuring Kendrick Lamar. The tropical pop single was released on Sept. 6, and its arrival lifts Sia’s Twitter mentions up 497 percent to 51,000 for the week. The surge helps trigger a No. 41 re-entry on the Social 50.
Also in the top 10, Beyonce’s Lemonade album scores its fourth top 10 on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks, as “Hold Up” powers 19-8. “Hold” follows her previous Lemonade top 10s “Formation” (No. 2), “Sorry” (No. 7) and “Freedom,” featuring Lamar (No. 5). “Hold Up’s” leap stems from its video’s upload to YouTube on Sept. 4 (also Beyonce’s 35th birthday).
“Hold Up” is the second stand-alone Lemonade clip to reach the streaming platform from her full-length Lemonade HBO special, after “Sorry.” The “Hold Up” clip, which won the superstar an MTV Video Music Award for best female video on Aug. 28, has clocked more than 16 million global views on YouTube through Sept. 13.
A ‘Girl,’ Some ‘Love’ and a ‘Moment’: Kungs vs. Cookin on 3 Burners’ “That Girl” powers to a No. 5 debut on Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks as the song continues to find new fans and break through into the pop mainstream. The cut, a remix by French DJ Kungs of a song by Australian funk trio Cookin on 3 Burners, also nears the Streaming Songs chart, picking up 5.6 million domestic streams in the week ending Sept. 11, according to Nielsen Music, up 3 percent. In turn, the cut rises 32-30 on the Hot 100. The official “Girl” video surpassed 100 million global views on YouTube on Sept. 11, which Kungs celebrated on his Facebook page.
Meanwhile, The Black Eyed Peas earn their first Top Tracks entry, dating to the chart’s 2014 launch, with “#WHERESTHELOVE,” featuring The World, which arrives at No. 10. The cut, an updated take on the Peas’ 2003 breakthrough single “Where Is the Love,” features a bevy of all-stars contributing vocals to the track. Among them: Justin Timberlake (who sang on the original “Love”), Mary J. Blige and Usher.
Lastly, Kings of Leon return with “Waste a Moment,” which bows at No. 19. The rockers released the track on Sept. 8, and the track’s official audio has claimed more than 1.3 million plays on YouTube through Sept. 13. “Moment” previews the band’s seventh studio album, Walls, due out Oct. 14.
