Lacuna Coil has scrapped a slate of international concerts due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The Italian goth metal band was scheduled to play a stretch of dates across Asia and Australia in the weeks ahead, included sets at Download Festival, to be held March 20 in Melbourne and March 21 in Sydney.
With coronavirus cases spiking dramatically in Italy, the band and their reps have decided to take the safe route. “We regret to inform our beloved fans of South East Asia that due to circumstances beyond our control we must cancel our upcoming shows in Dubai, Bangkok, Melbourne, Sydney, Tokyo, Osaka, Singapore and Jakarta,” a statement from the band reads.
“Our home region of Lombardia, Italy, is in the midst of a Coronavirus outbreak. While cancelling is heartbreaking for us, everyone’s health and safety must come first and this includes our fans.”
The message continues, “We’re confident this emergency will soon be contained and we can get back on the road to you. Thank you for your understanding and stay safe.”
Lacuna Coil join a growing list of acts pressing pause on their touring plans. Green Day, BTS, Avril Lavigne, Mabel and New Order are among the big names who’ve postponed or canceled shows as the disease continues to spread.
