Kristine W collects her 17th No. 1 on Billboard‘s Dance Club Songs chart (dated Jan. 27), and first since 2011’s “Fade,” as “Stars” rises 2-1. The singer ties Mariah Carey for the sixth-most No. 1s since the chart’s Aug. 28, 1976, inception. Madonna leads with 46.
“Stars” was remixed by Alex Acosta, Freejak and Hans Mallon/Kespa, among others.
Says Ms. W (the W is for last name Weitz), “‘Stars’ talks about the ups and downs in each of our life journeys, how we invest ourselves in people and passions, and sometimes they don’t work out and things completely change for better or worse.
“We all feel the pain from loss and change in our lives that we can’t control, and we all deal with it differently. I noticed a lot of people were going through life changes and having a hard time, young and old, myself, my kids, friends, family and fans in their social media posts and chats. The feelings seemed to be universal, so ‘Stars’ was my way of communicating that.”
She adds of her new leader, “We started working on it in 2015, so it’s been a tough project. But I knew there was something very special about the song, so I just kept mixing the batter ’til the recipe was just right. It’s a hopeful message, so when it connected with people I knew was doing what I was called to do.”
