King Princess’ Sales, Streams Soar After ‘SNL’ Debut

Following the Nov. 23 performance, the 20-year-old earned boosts in all categories, led by a 941% jump in digital downloads.

Interest in King Princess skyrocketed following the singer’s debut appearance on Saturday Night Live, spurring gains for her catalog across the board in the tracking week ending Nov. 28.

After performing on the Will Ferrell-hosted episode of the long-running NBC sketch comedy show on Nov. 23, King Princess’ catalog earned 4,000 equivalent album units, according to Nielsen Music, a boost of 38% over the previous tracking week ending Nov. 21. Of that sum, 1,000 were via album sales, up 217%.

Additionally, King Princess’ digital song download sales numbered 3,000, a leap of 941%.


Finally, on-demand U.S. streams of her catalog of songs jumped 16% to 4.9 million total.

In terms of chart movement, “1950,” the first song she performed on the show, bows at No. 16 on Alternative Digital Song Sales, earning 2,000 downloads. That debut comes over a year after the song’s initial run at radio; it peaked at No. 17 on the Alternative Songs airplay chart (Sept. 8, 2018), No. 25 on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart (Sept. 1, 2018) and No. 29 on the all-rock-format Rock Airplay (Sept. 8, 2018). Additionally, “1950” was streamed 1.3 million times.

“Hit the Back,” King Princess’ second performance of the evening, moved 1,000 downloads and 386,000 streams.

Cheap Queen, her debut album, debuted at No. 18 on the Alternative Albums chart dated Nov. 9 and has earned 25,000 album units to date.
