The back-to-back NBA Champion Golden State Warriors have named Kim Stone as general manager of Chase Center, the team’s San Francisco arena slated to open Sept. 6. 2019.
Stone hails from the Miami Heat and AmericanAirlines Arena, where she was promoted to evp in the fall after 12 years as general manager. Stone will oversee all operations at Chase Center and report to Warriors president and chief operating officer Rick Welts.
“Kim’s vision and experience in guiding a world-class venue will add to the fan experience we aspire to deliver every day,” Welts said in a statement, while Stone described the job as an “opportunity of a lifetime.”
“We aim to make this arena an international destination,” she said in a statement, thanking the team’s owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, along with Welts. “We hope to reimagine the event experience and create unparalleled excitement for the Bay Area and, really, the world.”
In Miami, Stone hosted four consecutive NBA Finals for the LeBron James-led Miami Heat from 2011 to 2014. As gm of AmericanAirlines Arena, Stone was responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations and won the NBA’s Best Arena Experience award for the 2016-17 season. In 2014, AmericanAirlines Arena became the first sports and entertainment venue to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold Recertification and Stone has received a number of industry awards including Venues Today “Women of Influence” honors in 2013. Stone is a graduate the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2014.
